This week at MWC, Intel revealed its 2015 and 2016 mobile chipset lineup, as well as the fact that the company is adopting a similar naming scheme to its Core line of processors with these new chips. They've been dubbed x3, x5, and x7, and as with the Core processors, bigger is generally better. Intel has long been something of a dark horse in the mobile industry. The company has seen negligible penetration in smartphones to date (though not  none ) and competes almost exclusively in the low to mid-range segment in Android tablets. Of course, as the ultraportable market changes and small, super-thin laptops and convertibles become more common, Intel is swooping in with design wins left and right, keeping the likes of Qualcomm, NVIDIA, MediaTek, and Samsung out of a lucrative market. BlackBerry and Samsung team up in the most unlikely of partnerships to deliver more secure mobility solutions to enterprise clients. (Photo : Kārlis Dambrāns) BlackBerry has a pleasant surprise for Android users: a partnership with Samsung will bring better Android security by coupling its BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) 12 mobility management platform with Samsung's business-centered Knox security system. In a move that raised eyebrows, BlackBerry CEO John Chen announced at the company's enterprise event in San Francisco on Nov. 13 that it is working with Samsung, the very company that brought the Canadian smartphone maker to its knees, to deliver more secure mobility solutions for enterprises running on Android. The partnership will provide Samsung's business clients using its Knox suite of secure work applications with an additional layer of security by having Knox run on BlackBerry's BES12 server. Samsung has claimed a WiFi breakthrough, saying it has “successfully overcome the barriers to the commercialization of 60GHz millimeter-wave band Wi-Fi technology” and will soon deliver products capable of wireless data transmission at up to 4.6 gigabits per second. Samsung's  canned statement  says previous attempts to use the 60GHz band for WiFi have foundered because “as millimeter waves that travel by line-of-sight [have] weak penetration properties and is susceptible to path loss, resulting in poor signal and data performance.” By using “wide-coverage beam-forming antenna” and “eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network” Samsung says it has cracked the problem and that products using its 802.11 ab standard could go on sale next year. South Korean phonemaker Samsung, which has been losing market share to rivals in India, is gearing up to launch two premium devices — the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 — to take on the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The company has started talking to distributors and retailers to launch these devices in time for Diwali, ahead of the launch of the Apple devices in October. Unlike previous Samsung phones that were clad in a plastic body, these will be the first Samsung phones with an external metal casing, something that iPhones have had for long. Priced a little over Rs 40,000 a piece, the Galaxy Alpha is expected to be cheaper than the new iPhone 6 but will have better features, an offline distributor briefed on Samsung's plans said.
